Şerif Gören, who has produced award-winning films in Turkish cinema such as 'Yılanların Öcü', 'Derman', 'Umut' and 'Yol', was born on October 14, 1944 in the city of Xanthi, Greece.
Şerif Gören, who came to Turkey with a scholarship in 1956 and studied at Istanbul Boys High School, took his first step into cinema with Erman Film Studio, where he started working as an editor in 1962. He gained the fast editing approach that is the distinctive feature of his films while he was working as an editor here.
Şerif Gören, who first worked as an assistant director in Mehmet Aslan's 'Hakanların Savaşı' in 1968 and developed himself in this field, worked with directors such as Remzi Jöntürk, Atıf Yılmaz, Yılmaz Güney, Natuk Baytan, and Osman Seden.
Şerif Gören took over the directorship of 'Endişe' in 1974, after Yılmaz Güney was arrested during the first days of shooting. Gören, who won the 'Best Director' award at the Antalya Golden Orange Film Festival with this first film, achieved great success by winning the 'Golden Palme' award at the Cannes Film Festival with 'Yol', the script of which was written by Yılmaz Güney.
Şerif Gören, one of the most productive directors of Turkish cinema, has directed commercial films and documentaries as well as films that generally have a social realism approach. Gören mostly deals with subjects such as urban life and the relationship between nature and humans in his films.
